It’s like this: you wake and watch TV, get in your car and listen to the radio you go to your little jobs or little school, but you don’t hear about that on the 6 o’clock news, why? ‘Cause nothing is really happening, and you go home and watch some more TV and maybe it’s a fun night and you go out and watch a movie. I mean it’s got so bad that half the people on TV, inside the TV, they’re watching TV. What are these people watching? People like me.

→ Magenta Galaxy: Generation Why

whydonswhy:

My generation is often criticized for our inability to grow up. Growing up, defined as living on our own, doing full-time jobs for an extended duration rather than flitting from one to the next, and marrying before 30. And should war break out on the streets tomorrow, we have nothing but our iPads to use as weapons.  From the perspective of those who’ve come before us, I see how this seems true.

But ours is a generation who has witnessed our parents sweat blood to hold a job, only to be denied of proper compensation from companies who promise to care.  Ours is a generation who entered the workforce at a time when making a living for most meant resorting to jobs at a call center.  Marriage doesn’t mean being with whom you love forever. It means going through struggle with one person, and hoping each hurdle still keeps the fire burning.  This is a generation of loose ends and meanings. I don’t think we forgot to grow up.  I think we grew up faster than we should have.
